The Shortest Possible game
What is the shortest possible game, assuming both players cooperate to
end the game as quickly as possible. Send in your answers, I'll post the
best current solution here.
Shortest Standard Game
Here is the shortest known game, devised by Philip Cohen, and published
in November 1973 NostAlgia. It's called the "Foolswin"; just nine
moves long.
Pretty slick? Unbeatable? In December 1973, Mannis Charosh devised this
improvement, which doesn't require the last move be a suicide play.
Unbeatable? The record is more than 20 years old, but one of white's
moves is not a capture, so within the same rough game plan, an 8 move game
(with a suicide ending) might be possible.
Shortest Scrambled Eggs game?
Here's the shortest known game for the Scrambled Eggs variation (11 moves!)
, devised in May 1999 by JorgeGómez
Arrausi.
This supercedes the previous best (13 moves), devised circa 1991 jointly
by Philip Cohen and Michael Keller.
