Hi,
What makes a win in spanlges? Does the triangle have to be complete (filled in)?
I've had a couple games where i though i won, but it didn't count.
Thanks. |

Yes. A complete 4-tile triangle with your color on the tips, and either color in the center.
I wonder what would happen if you allowed even larger (9-tile and so on) triangles to win. |

Actually, that's the rule I initially implemented. If spangles
catches on, it may be back as a variation. |

There is still a bug hanging, that when you opponent plays inside your 3 triangles, it is not an immediate win for you, but you must wait next turn.
In some cases this additionnal moves allows the opponent to steal your victory (if while playing, he is doing a triangle). This is not in accordance with David Smith Spangles rules, I can provide official text if needed... |

Here they are, sent by David Smith :
Official Rules of Spangles
Definitions
1. SPANGLES is played with yellow and blue triangular tiles.
2. Two players determine by prior agreement which colour tiles they will use.
3. The game is won by the first player to complete a four tile triangle, during the course of the game, in which
(a) all four tiles or
(b) the three outer tiles only
are that player's colour
( whether or not an identical triangle is completed for the other player during that same turn).
4. The game is drawn if an insufficient number of tiles is available with which to
complete a win.
Rules of Play
1. Commencing with the Yellow player, each player at each turn places a tile on any flat surface.
2. After the first turn, each tile must be placed edge to edge alongside any tile or tiles already in play.

only checking for the winning conditions for the current player does have the advantage that you can't ever draw. (Has anyone ever filled the playing surface?)
I assume it would be possible for a player to play his tile that would fill the center of a win for the opponent but also be the third tip for the player. Who wins? Highly unlikely scenario, but still easier to only check for the win of the current player. |

You are right Tom, this is why in rule 3 there is the "whether or not an identical triangle is completed for the other player during that same turn" proviso.
Then like for Trax, in case the two players meet winning conditions, the one which just put the tile wins. This can happen while defending the "saw". |
